Chapter 4: Fear being peeked on while bathing in clear and bright moonlight

It was around ten minutes to twelve at night, the break time in the middle of the night class. This was similar to the noon break during day class.

The female dorm was an H-shaped building with the baths, showers, and most public facilities positioned in the middle row of the building.

Overlooking the forest were brick walls three metres out from the louvre windows that were slowly leaking out white, warm steam along with the faint scent of soap. This was a fragrance that many male youths dreamed of in their pink paradises.

Underneath the tall walls was a backdrop of shrubs where three figures were stealthily hiding in the darkness.

Beep, beep. There was the short text sound from a cellphone.

Emerald glanced at it before whispering, “From Zhu Yue. She said Momiji has already entered the public bath.”

“Then,” Fu Xing gulped. “Including taking off clothes and everything, she should be near the pool in five minutes or so.”

This was his first time peeking into a female bath. He could feel his heart racing unnaturally, his palms covered in cold sweat.

“Yes, it’s about time we move.” Emerald pulled out a jar and opened it. After looking at the contents for a moment, he let out a sigh, then extremely unwillingly poured the powder out onto his palm and sprinkled it over Fu Xing’s body. “This is very expensive…”

“Isn’t it to help you?!” Fu Xing huffed back in annoyance. “Is this concealment powder of yours effective?”

“Of course. Moreover, it also has slight waterproof capability. Unless you’re washed out by a large amount of water, you won’t become visible.”

“I see. Then why can I see you?”

“Concealment powder doesn’t work on people that use it simultaneously. So we don’t need to worry about causing trouble because we can’t see each other.”

“I see.” Based on Emerald’s regretful expression, it seemed like this thing couldn’t really be fake.

“Hey, just saying,” Rocort stood next to them and inquired suspiciously, “Don’t we need to enter the bath? What are we staying around here for?”

“If we jump through that window, we’ll be right at the female bath inside.”

“I know.” Rocort scratched his head. “Why go through so much trouble? Can’t we just directly go in?”

“How could we directly go in!” Emerald sprinkled some powder on Rocort. “I don’t know whether or not there are usually girls inviting the handsome Rocort with them into the public baths, but the objective of our actions is different this time.”

“Rocort, are there really people that invite you in?” Fu Xing quickly asked.

Rocort grinned. “There are, but I can go inside even without an invitation.”

“You’re just showing off, aren’t you!”

“Lower your voice.” Emerald quietly reprimanded. “We don’t have much time. Climb up through the window, enter the bath, find Momiji, pull some fur, leave. That’s all. We have to move fast.”

“This is my first time climbing a wall!” Rocort excitedly smiled. He then softly recited a spell and lightly stamped his feet to leap up to the platform next to the window.

Fu Xing didn’t have such skills. He could only grab the parts jutting out from the walls and climb up clumsily along the water pipe.

Rocort reached a hand down to grab Fu Xing and helped him scale the wall. After a great amount effort, he managed to forcibly pull Fu Xing upwards.

“This place is very narrow, we’ll have to head in first,” Rocort said to Emerald below him as he pulled on Fu Xing.

“Got it.”

“Momiji’s tail is red, isn’t it? The same colour as her hair?”

“Yes, it’s dark red like flames…ah!” Emerald suddenly remembered something important.

Momiji was a fox spirit, a flame fox with the fire attribute—but his task required the tail fur of an arctic fox!

“Wait! Don’t go in yet! Hurry up and come down!”

“What?” Fu Xing had finally managed to climb all the way up. Just as he was about to enter the bath with Rocort, an unnatural wind suddenly whirled past, pulling them into the bathing room.

“Ahhhh—” The pair directly fell down. Fortunately, it was a pool below, so they did not get injured.

However, the water washed off the powder, and the infiltrators were immediately exposed!

“Eeeek!”, “Someone snuck inside!”, “They’re boys!”

Cries of alarm rang out, followed by a series of smashing noises as scoops, soaps, and bottles of shampoo came raining down hard like meteorites, hitting the pair until their faces were bruised and swollen.

“Cra-crap! We need to go, quickly!” Fu Xing endured the pain. Unable to open his eyes because of the splashes and soap bubbles, he frantically clutched at Rocort next to him, steeling himself to charge out from the siege.

Rocort’s wrist felt slimmer than he remembered, but Fu Xing was too busy for idle thoughts. He could only focus on swiftly leaving this hell of screams and falling objects.

Then, that strange wind from before blew past once again. The pressure created a silver-grey mist that surrounding the two of them, whirling around them like a vortex. The next moment, the two’s figures vanished in the centre of the tornado.

At the same time, in the staff dorm area.

Grod was elegantly reclining in front of the fireplace inside a wooden house, carefully painting his toenails. Above the fireplace was a triangular, metal rack supporting a transparent, crystal ball. It was a gorgeous myriad of colours, with light and shadow flowing inside like water.

Clang. The sphere made a sharp noise. A pink glow flashed for two seconds before disappearing.

Grod smirked.

Aiyaya, young people these days are really so lively and exuberant…

Which unlucky fellow is paying a visit to Samukawa’s secret garden?

Bang! Splash! They fell a second time, warm water surrounding them once again.

After experiencing a series of attacks and spinning around, Fu Xing and Rocort only felt dizzy, their vision blurred.

What-what is the current situation?

“What the hell are you doing?!” A roar pierced their eardrums. However, it was one voice this time, moreover, a low tone from a male. Could it be that they had arrived at the male bath?

Fu Xing struggled to sit up in the water, rubbing away the water in his eyes. The surrounding scene entered his field of vision.

It was a bathroom, but much smaller than a public bath. It felt more like a private bath in a suite. The edges of the milky white tub had a gold, decorative fringe. It was filled with warm water, and the air carried the sweet scent of apricots and peaches. There were brightly coloured objects floating in the bubbly water, and Fu Xing casually scooped one up.

Eh, a rubber chick? Isn’t this a toy that kids play with when they bathe?

“He Fu Xing!”

The furious roar echoed once more, and the tone of voice seemed like one that Fu Xing had heard before. Shaking with fear, he raised his head to see a black-haired boy that appeared to be around twelve or thirteen years old, soaking naked in the water while glaring at him with eyes that glinted ominously.

A classmate? Why don’t I have any impression of him? But he also looks a bit familiar. “M-may I ask who you might be?”

“How did you guys appear here?! Bastards!”

“Is this the student dorms?”

“It’s the administrative staff dorms!” The boy growled, his gaze so vicious that it felt as if he was about to shred Fu Xing into pieces. However, held back by the embarrassing circumstances, he did not yet make a move.

“We-we just had something to do at the female dorm, but I have no idea how….” Fu Xing tried his best to tactfully clarify the situation, but the other person’s expression turned uglier.

“Trying to sneak into the female bath? Damn that Grod!” The boy cursed out. “You two trouble-making bastards! What kind of vulgar shady business were you trying to do?!”

“Wh-what?” It’s not that serious!

“Then-then what’s up with that person?!”

That person? Meaning Rocort?

Fu Xing turned around, yet the one that he saw behind him was not Rocort, but another person.

A female.

There was a white shirt on her slim torso, her clothes semi-transparent after being soaked in water, faintly revealing milky soft skin. She had delicate facial features and fine, long silver hair. She also had slightly pointed ears, which triggered Fu Xing’s memory.

It was the beautiful fairy he had met during that first Witchcraft class!

Fu Xing fell into a daze once again, forgetting his own surroundings as he scratched his head abashedly. “Um, hello. Long time no see…”

The person turned her large, bright eyes towards him and gave a bewildered smile. “What are you saying, Fu Xing?”

“Eh, you know me?” Wow! So happy!

The girl smiled sweetly. “I’m Rocort~”

Fu Xing froze. The butterflies in his heart were instantly killed by an electric mosquito swatter.

“What did you say?!” This simultaneously came from both the mouths of Fu Xing and the boy.

“Liar!” Fu Xing immediately denied, unwilling to face this truth.

The girl who called herself Rocort grinned and said, “This is my other form. After we fell into the water, I was afraid of scaring the girls, so I transformed into this.” She tugged up her shirt. “See, my shirt even has my name stitched on it.”

Fu Xing glanced at the shirt pocket. There was a name in small, English letters embroidered in blue-green thread: Rocort.

Upon knowing that the target of his dreams for many days was actually his good friend, that pink, youthful dream instantly evaporated.

“Get the hell out!” The other person in the tub yelled, dragging Fu Xing’s attention back. “Go wait in the office! To accept your punishment!”

“Who are you?” Now his dreams had been destroyed, Fu Xing’s mood was extremely poor, and he looked at the youth without much patience.

“Is Samukawa angry?” Rocort innocently asked as he looked at the other person.

“Samukawa?” Fu Xing was shocked. “You’re Samukawa?!” That can’t be right! No matter how much he tried, he could not match up this little cute boy in front of him with that scowling Samukawa. Why do special animate beings like transforming so much?! Like everyone!

“Watch your attitude!” The boy arrogantly rebuked in anger. His aggressive look was a different but equally effective version of the Samukawa from class.

“Are you really Professor…Samukawa?” Fu Xing stared at the youth in disbelief, then shifted his line of sight down to the rubber chicks and duckies floating in the water. “And…you play with these when you take a bath?”

The youth instantly turned red in the face. “Shut your mouth!” A ball of light appeared floating above his palm.

“Don’t be mad, Samukawa.” Rocort jumped up and pounced towards Samukawa with an exquisite body, the soft and well-rounded chest area pressed against the other person’s senses. He reached two fingers out to touch the corners of Samukawa’s lips and push them upwards, forcing the face up into a twisted smile. “Although being angry is also quite cute, I think it’s better if you smile.”

“You! Let go!” Samukawa’s face was flushed as he was hugged in Rocort’s embrace. However, this appearance did not seem to be due to anger only.

“What’s the matter?” Rocort eyed Samukawa, then glanced at his own shirt. “Oh, do you feel uncomfortable about the wet clothing sticking onto you?” Rocort nodded. “I’ll just take it off then.” As soon as he said this, he reached out to start undoing the buttons.

“Stop!” Samukawa bellowed and grabbed Rocort’s arm. “What are you trying to do! Trying to scheme a way to trap me? Turn back to your original appearance immediately!”

“Does Samukuawa not like this form?” Rocort blinked, then turned towards Fu Xing. “Then what about Fu Xing?”

“I don’t know…” Fu Xing turned his head away. “But in your current state, it’s best not to move around too much…”

Although he knew this girl was actually Rocort, the scene in front of him still made his blood pump throughout [his body].

“Fine then.” Rocort closed his eyes and his kin began to glow a dark red. The light surrounded his entire body, and with a flash, the thin and slender figure instantly changed into a tall and lanky one.

After transforming back into his original form, Rocort showed off an evilly handsome smile as he looked at the Samukawa in his arms. He said in a low voice, “Do you like it this way, Samukawa?”

“Let go of me! Bastard!”

“You don’t like it?” Rocort furrowed his brows.

“Um, Rocort, we should really leave as quickly as possible…” For some reason, the image in front of him was even more stimulating, more equivocal than the previous scene.

“Apologies, we’re truly very sorry for alarming you. But we really don’t know what happened! Deepest apologies, please forgive us…” Fu Xing said as he pulled Rocort to climb out from the bathtub and move towards the door.

“Oh, right, we won’t tell anyone what we saw today, so please don’t worry!”

“You dare to threaten me?!”

“Ah! That wasn’t my intention!”

Samukawa ignored him and focused on another incantation, directly shooting a blast wave out towards Fu Xing and Rocort.

“Gah!” Fu Xing instinctively dodged.

However, before the attack reached Fu Xing, it was struck and dispersed by a bright mauve flame. Though Fu Xing did not know what had happened, he had no time to think about it, and he yanked Rocort to hurriedly flee the scene.

“Damn it, Grod! I’m not finished with you! Fucking transvestite!”

While Fu Xing and Rocort had been transported to Samukawa’s room and made an awful mess, Emerald had very pragmatically left the scene and returned to the male dorms.

He was not stupid enough to stay there and wait to be captured, and definitely not sentimental enough to ask for punishment of his own accord. He knew that Fu Xing and Rocort might get disciplined, but he had checked and seen that Grod was the one responsible for managing the female dorms’ defenses. Grod always sided with his students, so Emerald believed that Fu Xing wouldn’t be in too much trouble.

On the contrary, it would be more of a letdown to those that had helped him if he did not complete the task after having already reached this point.

Emerald walked into the dorm and arrived in front of a certain room. After a moment of hesitation, he lightly knocked the door.

A moment later, the door opened. There was a youth with a long, black braid and deep violet, angled eyes that welcomed him at the door with a frosty expression.

“Sorry for the interruption. I’m looking for Di Shuang.”

“I don’t know you,” the other person said flatly as he looked at Emerald.

Emerald responded with an unconcerned smile. “I heard that you’re an arctic fox from Changbai Mountains?”

Di Shuang raised a brow.

“I’ll cut straight to the point. I want to make a deal with you.” Emerald’s eyes flashed with the glint of a businessman. “I’ve received an order; the task is to obtain three strands of an arctic fox’s tail fur. I hope you can give these to me. In exchange, I will help you unconditionally when you receive an order. How about it?”

Di Shuang was silent as he narrowed his eyes to study Emerald. After a while, he slowly said, “What is required to summon a dark elf?”

Dark elves were a rarely seen race. Among the elves, they were an existence closest to the gods, along with light elves, royal elves, and a handful of elves with unique attributes. They typically resided in another dimension, so wanting to meet one required completely a specific summoning procedure.

“That’s your order?”

Di Shuang raised his left hand to show the pale-blue spiral of light on his palm to Emerald.

Hah! What good luck! “Summoning the upper-realm elves requires special materials. These materials are quite rare and expensive, difficult for the average person to obtain…” Emerald intentionally built the suspense, but right before Di Shuang was about to close the door, Emerald continued, “However, I just happen to have all of them.”

Di Shuang opened the door all the way to scrutinise Emerald.

“Do you want to make the deal?”

Di Shuang stiffly nodded.

“In that case, please give me five strands of an arctic fox’s tail fur.” Emerald wore a wily smile.

“You just said three strands.”

“Oh, that was under normal circumstances. If your mission wasn’t so difficult, three strands of tail fur would have been fine.”

Di Shuang knit his brows together and muttered unhappily, “You’re even slyer than a fox…”

“Can’t help it.” Emerald feigned innocence as he gave a shrug. “Learned it from humans.”

The next day, Emerald submitted his task without incident, completing the order.

The news of the disturbance that Fu Xing and Rocort had caused last night had spread. During class today, quite a few girls had shot malicious glares towards Fu Xing—yes, only towards Fu Xing.

“Why is Rocort fine?!” After the seventh girl passed by Fu Xing to angrily call him a “pervert”, Fu Xing couldn’t help but complain, “He also snuck into the female baths, so why are they only mad at me?! Besides, it’s not like we went in to peep, it was to properly do a job!”

“I had already transformed by the time I fell in.” Rocort smugly declared, “I snuck in legally.”

“Speaking of which, that makes me angry! Rocort, why didn’t you ever mention you could change forms!”

“You guys didn’t ask.” Rocort helplessly replied, “It’s nothing that important either. Besides, transforming like that is very tiring, I can’t swap back and forth often…”

“It’s advanced illusory magic, isn’t it?” Emerald calmly thought of an appropriate explanation. “Some fairies are extremely skilled at illusory magic and frequently change their appearance to play tricks on humans.” Rocort likely was the same case.

“How do you know such a trick?” It’s such a cheat!

“An older sister taught it to me before. She’s much older than me, and has lived for a very long time, so she knows a lot of things.”

“Has lived for a very long time…How old is she?”

“Probably several thousand years? But she’s very beautiful.”

“I see.” Rocort even thought the usual scowling Samukawa was cute, so Fu Xing had no expectations for Rocort’s aesthetic standards.

“Regardless of your objective, you looked in, and that’s that. The more you argue back, the more people will think you shouldn’t be let off lightly and that you’re pretending to be innocent,” Emerald grinned teasingly.

“Who wanted to look?!” Alright, I did want to look just a bit, but only a tiny bit! “And wasn’t it all your fault? You didn’t even check your own task clearly before acting.”

“You two also participated in the planning, yet didn’t notice issues either,” Emerald huffed back in response. “In any case, there weren’t any problems, so no need to keep debating over it.”

Although Fu Xing and Rocort had caused trouble, the punishment was not severe. After they had raced out from Samukawa’s room, they had been summoned to the teachers’ study by Grod and were penalised with labour and service.

The defence system for the female dorms was Grod’s responsibility. The protection spell was set so that if any infiltrators from outside were detected to be harmless, they would be directly transported to Samukawa’s room. Moreover, the final location would match up to where they had been. If they broke into the baths, they would be sent to the bathroom. If they broke into the bedrooms, they would be sent to the bedroom. In addition, it was also Grod’s spell that had helped Fu Xing defend against the attack [from Samukawa].

It was very clear to see that, rather than punishing the infiltrators, this was more like punishing Samukawa.

Grod said that the boy they had seen last night had been Samukawa’s true form. Apparently, after a certain event, Professor Samukawa’s appearance had been fixed at his twelve-year old form. He usually used illusory and transformation magic to create a false appearance. In reality, he was already over five hundred years old.

Most special animate beings would not let their external appearance seem too old. After a certain age, they would use spiritual power to maintain their form so that they were at their prime. Majority of them liked to keep their most perfect-looking state.

However, to someone with a disagreeable personality like Samukawa, seeming too young was not a good thing, especially when he had an excessively naïve and innocent baby face. This made yelling at others lose its driving force, simply giving others a cute impression instead.

Fu Xing had very tactfully kept his lips sealed regarding Samukawa’s hobby; he wasn’t stupid enough to abuse others like this. He knew that Samukawa’s patience would endure sealing his lips before he said it.

On a side note, after they had frantically left the scene last night, they had later realised that they had accidentally taken a single, yellow chick out. Returning such a thing seemed like it would just create awkward [situations], and it might even be assumed as threatening their teacher. As a result, Fu Xing could only hide it in inside his drawer.

The three friends chatted as they entered the classroom.

Friday evening’s Human Sociology and Friendly Relations was one of the dedicated subjects for special animate beings. It was mainly to teach the special animate beings oblivious to the outside society about the situation of the human world. This was to help non-humans entering human society to not make any mistakes and naturally assimilate.

Previously, this course had been a bit too basic, such as going over life in elementary school and ethics courses. Fu Xing would often nod off while listening.

However, starting from last Monday, the course had added practical and discussion portions, making the class significantly more interesting.

This week’s class was about watching films. After Professor Peiris explained some responses during social interactions, he played a film and had everyone record their observations.

It was a thirty-minute long film set in some restaurant. There was a group of friends, a mix of females and males, sitting at a long table and talking loudly to each other.

It was said that, for the sake of teaching, Professor Peiris had spent a large sum of money to purchase this remote monitoring system installed at a specific location for real, detailed scenes of human interaction to be used in class. However, many students suspected that Professor Peiris had actually bought this equipment for other purposes, or that some of these cameras had been set up in locations like female changing rooms or hotels.

“Rocort, make sure you focus on watching the film later,” Fu Xing solemnly said as if he was clutching onto his deathbed before Peiris began to play the clip.

“Why?”

“Because I want to sleep…” Fu Xing barely kept his eyes open as he stumbled over his final dying words. “You have to tell me what the film is about…”

The good thing about observation notes was that there were no right answers. He had not watched the last film either and had later made it up. When he had nothing else to fabricate, he had even randomly mixed in some things from local Taiwanese drama, with sentences like, “With Leader Li’s knitted brows, it feels like the situation isn’t a simple one”, or “Mrs. Wang was so alarmed that her expression completely changed” constantly appearing.

Contrary to his expectations, he had received positive feedback from the professor and earned an A.

“Rocort, I’ll have to…leave the rest…to you…”

As soon as the lights turned off, Fu Xing fell asleep until the end of class.

When the dismissal bell rang, Fu Xing rotated his slightly stiff neck and then lifted up his backpack to leave the classroom.

“Did anything happen just now?” Fu Xing stretched as he walked, speaking to Emerald who was calculating an order for ghostwriting homework.

“Aside from you loudly shouting, ‘Mom, I don’t want to eat’ in the middle of your dreams, nothing else in particular happened,” Emerald said as he tapped away on his iPhone, making clicking sounds.

“Liar!”

“Alright, it wasn’t actually that loud.”

Which means that I really did sleeptalk?! How embarrassing! “Oh, right, where did Rocort run off to? Why isn’t he walking with us?”

“Don’t know. He said someone was looking for him, so he left first. My guess is that a girl wanted to see him.”

“I see.” Damn, don’t tell me he was called out to complete another romantic task!

Ahhh, I also want to be so popular among girls! When can I be like Rocort, where there are always girl screaming my name wherever I go?

As if conforming to his thoughts, a female voice shouted out from his side.

“He-Fu-Xing!” The voice sounded like it was fuming with anger.

Fu Xing turned around to see a familiar figure with a long-haired pontytail appear in front of him.

“Senior Lunia. Is something the matter?” He had already completed his task, why come looking for him again?

Ah! I know what this type of situation is! Sometimes, because of their natural gentle and subdued nature, girls could not directly express their heart and could only circumvent by using various excuses to approach the person they admire.

This should be the so-called tsundere!

Lunia’s complexion was ugly. Violent criticism was written across her face as she screeched, “You look weak and delicate on the outside, but you’ve actually got quite a lot of nerve, haven’t you? To think you’d even dare to trespass into the female baths.”

“Ah, there’s a reason for that. Besides, I didn’t see anything…”

“The task I gave you before seems to have been too simple, a dishonour to your capability.” Lunia sneered, “You like extreme challenges and seek out excitement, is that it?”

“It’s not like that at all!”

“Now’s your chance.” Lunia’s attendant smiled. As she spoke, she waved a scroll in her hand.

Fu Xing recognised it as an approved order that had been sent down. “No way!”

Lunia took the paper scroll and grinned sinisterly at Fu Xing. “It’s not too difficult. I just want you to retrieve something.”

“What do you want me to do this time? Do you want Leon’s photos? Or his fur?” Fu Xing huffed in annoyance as he thought back to those peculiar missions.

“What bullshit are you spouting? So disgusting!”

“This guy really is vulgar!”

Lunia glared at Fu Xing. “Apparently you have a ‘pretty good’ relationship with the werewolf, Brad?”

Crap, I have a bad feeling!

Lunia chuckled and delicately said, “2-D’s Lunia requests for 1-C’s He Fu Xing to retrieve the transmorphed pawprint of werewolf Brad Albert. Time limit: two weeks. Accept this approved order.”

“What?!”

“Giving you two weeks is already pretty favourable treatment.” Lunia coldly snorted. “Accept the order, He Fu Xing.”

Fu Xing’s eyes widened as he stared grievously at Lunia, attempting to use innocent eyes to awake the other person’s inner motherly love. This move was something he had learned from The Ten Promises Between Me and My Puppy. His mom had rented the film last year, and in the end, even his vicious sister had tears in her eyes.

However, under the attack of this pure gaze, Lunia simply furrowed her brows and said in disgust, “Why pull such a stupid face?! Pretending to be retarded won’t work!”

The corners of Fu Xing’s lips twitched. He went back to his usual expression and helplessly accepted the order. A pale blue spiral patterned appeared on his palm.

It looked like bats were not suited to use a golden retriever’s moves.

After Lunia left, Emerald patted Fu Xing on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, you helped me last time, so I’ll help you this time.”

Fu Xing was so touched that tears were practically about to gush out. “Thank you! Emerald, you’re such a good brother!” Ah! What a beautiful friendship!

“Of course.” Emerald smirked. “At a brothers’ price, 50% off.” He then pulled out his merchandise catalogue. “Go ahead and say any items you need!”

“You money-grabbing shark!” Although he voiced this criticism, Fu Xing still powerlessly accepted the catalogue of goods and began to look for some tools that might be useful. His life was more important than his moral backbone.

While Fu Xing and Emerald had been stopped by the raging Lunia, Rocort had been quietly walking alone towards the teaching and administration staff’s research building in the west area.

After class, someone had passed him a public memo. Per the request on the paper, he was heading towards the appointed office at night.

“Samukawa, was there something you needed me for?” Rocort smiled and asked, “Why aren’t you using the prettier face?”

“Please add on Professor!” Samukawa sat behind a wooden desk as he haughtily looked at Rocort entering alone. His lips curled up into a sneer. “I originally wanted to punish both you and that bat brat, but lucky for him, he accepted another order before I could reach him.” It was impossible to accept two orders at the same time. This was a rule.

“Order?” An expression of realisation dawned on Rocort’s face. “Samukawa, you also want me to kiss or hug you?”

“Shut up! As if I’m like those brainless idiots!” He had recommended for Headmaster Sanbi to change the regulations several times already! Yet it had never been implemented this whole time!

“And so?”

Samukawa spread open the paper scroll on the desk. “Tengu Samukawa requests 1-C’s Rocort to retrieve a top-grade fairy crystal. Time limit: two days.”

Rocort paused for two seconds. “Those are the contents of the order?”

Samukawa thought Rocort was intimidated by the mission. He smugly gave a sinister grin, “If you don’t think you can complete it, you can reject and accept the punishment in advance. That will save time. Being able to recognise your inability is also a virtue.”

“Oh, no, that’s not it.” Rocort smiled. “I can accept this order.”

Samukawa narrowed his eyes and scoffed disapprovingly, “Are you certain? If you cannot complete it, the penalty will be more severe!”

Rocort only smiled in response.

“Hmph!” Looks like this guy is a fool through and through.

Samukawa tossed the scroll at Rocort. The instant he accepted the order, a pale blue mark materialised on his palm.

“Time limit is two days, you’d better act quickly,” Samukawa reminded in anticipation before Rocort left the office.

“Are you worried for me, Samukawa?”

Samukawa flushed red and roared furiously, “Get lost!”

“So dishonest…”

After returning to the dorms, Fu Xing, Emerald, and Rocort gathered to eat dinner together. Fu Xing, who was currently distressing over the order, was not in the mood to inquire Rocort’s previous whereabouts. He did not notice the other person’s identical pale blue mark on the palm either.

After dinner, Fu Xing and Emerald headed to the common hall to meet with Zhu Yue and discuss plans for completing the mission. Rocort idly strolled alone towards the woods in the south area.

The regions near the Forbidden Tower were silent at night. In comparison to the teaching area where nocturnal students were constantly going back and forth, the eerie woods were like a cemetery.

Rocort stood amidst the forest of fir trees and raised his head. Tonight was a half moon. The bright and clear silver moonlight poured through the trees.

It was perfect timing.

The corners of Rocort’s lips tilted upwards. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. Invisible energy began to stir and the air next to him started to circulate. The surrounding moonlight suddenly liquefied and surrounded him like a stream of water.

A moment later, Rocort’s body emitted a pale glow like the moon, and his tall and lanky form changed.

His frame shrank and turned slimmer. His hair lengthened, the colour lightening. His ears became pointed, and two thin, transparent wings sprouted from his back. His long eyelashes trembled and clear beads of water formed at the corner of his eyes, falling down along his face and into his palms.

He opened his eyes to look at the two white crystals like moonstones lying in his open hands.

“This should do.” Successfully accomplished! He let out a sigh of great relief and checked his watch. Only five minutes had passed.

Rocort pulled out a napkin he had grabbed from the dining hall and wrapped the crystals inside before stuffing them into his pocket. He closed his eyes and transformed back into his original appearance before quickly walking towards Samukawa’s dorm.

The teaching and administrative staff’s dorms were located in the west area, comprised of multiple, standalone wooden houses.

Rocort walked towards one of the houses painted in black. It was the house that he had just visited last night, resulting in him being soaked in water before miserably leaving: Samukawa’s residence.

He went up to the door and urgently pressed the doorbell with a finger. A fake warbling faintly rang through the door.

“Pressing once is enough!” A roar burst out as the door was opened. When the person saw Rocort, his expression turned into astonishment. “It’s you. What, you’ve finally recognised the reality and decided to give up on the order?”

“No. I’ve come to submit the task.”

Samukawa let out a heavy snort, as if he was blowing out his nose with all his strength. “Being a smartass even now, hmph!”

Rocort pulled out the wrinkled bundle of napkins from his pocket. “Here, for you.”

Samukawa stared at the napkin. “What’s this supposed to mean? Do I have the word ‘idiot’ written on my forehead?”

“It’s inside.”

Samukawa suspiciously studied Rocort and critically took the bundle of napkins to slowly unfold it—

“This-this is!” Samukawa nearly lost his balance as he staggered back in shock and bumped into the door. The spheres in his hands nearly dropped, and he reverently rushed to clutch them tightly. “This-this is…this is a royal elf’s crystal!”

Opaque crystals were something that all high-rank elves possessed. The darker the colour, the higher their rank. And these white, pearl-like crystals that glowed violet were the Queen’s Tears!

Impossible!

“How did you get these?!” The Fairy Queen’s whereabouts were indeterminate; she lived in seclusion within a hidden realm of an alternate space. Nobody had seen her for thousands of years. The Fairy Queen’s existence alone had become an unverifiable legend.

“Guess.” Rocort smiled thinly.

“Who gave it to you?”

“Guess. I’ve completed the task now, right?”

“That’s indeed correct, but…” Samukawa stared at the spheres in his palms. Once he calmed himself down, he flatly stated, “Are you sure you want to use these for your task? These already surpass my request. I only need a typical, top-grade fairy crystal.”

Although the purpose of passing down this order had been to give Rocort difficulty, it was hard for Samukawa to accept from Rocort the object that far exceeded his requirement.

“Samukawa’s so kind. But I only have this. Wanting me to hand over something else would instead be more challenging.”

“But—”

Rocort suddenly leaned in towards Samukawa. “Did Samukawa bathe already?”

“Not yet…” Wait, why are you bringing this kind of thing up now?!

“The apricot peach smells good, I like it a lot. The little duckies are very cute too.”

“You—” Are you threatening me?!

“I’m a bit tired, I want to go back and rest.” Rocort yawned. “Good night, Samukawa. You can just take that thing. If you don’t want it, you can throw it away as well.”

“How could I throw away something so precious?!”

“Then just take it as my gift to you.”

Samukawa glared at Rocort, then looked down at the spheres in his palm again. “Rather than letting you waste this treasure, they might as well be held under my safekeeping!” He let out a heavy scoff and turned to enter the house. Before slamming the door shut, he added, “Just for safekeeping!”

Rocort chuckled in an unconcerned manner and lazily turned to leave. “Not honest in the slightest.”

  1. Thanks for the translation!
“it seemed like this thing was couldn’t really be fake.” I think the “was” is a mistake?
“Regardless of your objective, you looked in, and that’s that. The more you argue back, the more people will think you shouldn’t be let off lightly and that you’re pretending to be innocent.,” There’s a punctuation error at the end.
    Rocort?! I’m speechless.

      1. I devoured your 1 year worth of works in about 1 week. I better wait for more CB chapters to be translated or else I would really fall into the pit of cliffhangers🙈🙈

        1. Well, the nice thing about YBCB (and TRA, if you get around to that one too) is that it’s episodic, so you could always just read up until the latest completed volume and you’ll be cliffhanger-free 👍
