Epilogue: Snow falls, packing up luggage to celebrate the new year
The days following the thrilling Halloween were quite peaceful.
When the red maple leaves fell, the chilly winter followed behind.
Shalom’s winter season was very cold. As soon as it turned into winter, it snowed for several days in a row, the accumulated snow dying the entire campus a pure white colour.
“Snow! It’s snow!” Fu Xing excitedly dashed out to the plaza in front of the dorms, not caring about the fact that it was dinnertime when there were people passing back and forth. He excitedly began to roll around in the snow on the ground.
“What’s so strange about that?” Emerald yawned. “Staying next to the fireplace to calculate money is the most suitable activity in this kind of weather.”
So unsentimental.
“This is my first time seeing snow!” Fu Xing bent over, pulled off his gloves, and grabbed a chunk of snow in his hands. “It only snows up in the mountains in Taiwan. I’ve always longed to touch fallen snow on the ground.”
“Can’t you just help defrost a deep-freezer?”
“That’s not the same!” Fu Xing moulded the snow together and tossed it at Emerald.
“Ah! You’ve got some nerve! Watch me return the favour—”
Bang! Another snowball smashed right into Emerald’s face.
“Hehehe, I’m standing on Fu Xing’s side!” Rocort proudly declared.
“Good job, as expected of my good bro—”
Pow!
An icy sensation attacked Fu Xing’s neck. He whipped his head around to see Zhu Yue teasingly grinning at him.
“Fu Xing, you were being careless,” she giggled.
“Alright, you dare to plot against me?” Fu Xing immediately formed another snowball as he smiled evilly at Zhu Yue. “Take this!”
He threw the snowball out, the white sphere drawing a beautiful arc through the air.
Just as it was about to land on Zhu Yue, a larger and sturdier snowball flew over from the side and knocked his snowball away midair.
“Eh?!” Fu Xing glanced over to see Brad glaring fiercely at him.
“He Fu Xing, you dare to bully Zhu Yue?!”
“No way! It’s just a game!”
“Cut the excuses—”
Pow!
Another snowball smashed into Brad’s back.
“Why so vicious, little pup?” Rachel laughed from where she stood in another corner.
“What did you say?!” Brad’s beastman companion furiously roared, “Don’t look down on us—”
Pow! Pow! Two snowballs struck them in the face.
“So noisy!” Emerald complained in annoyance. “If you’re not going to play, then clear out. Don’t just stand in the way!”
“Damn elf!” The beastman pushed the snow off his face and bent over to form a snowball. “Fine! Let’s duel your way!”
“It’s not a duel, it’s a game!”
“What are you guys doing?” The elf twins from their class came over as well. “We also want to join!”
“Ohoho, there seems to be some kind of exciting activity going on here.” Momiji and several elves passed by and happily joined the battle.
It did not take long before nearly all of Class C had assembled. Even quite a few students from the other classes were drawn in by the excitement and joined the chaotic snow fight.
Fu Xing noticed that Flora had also silently entered the battle. However, for some reason, she was only attacking Brad.
As for Emerald, he escaped the battlefield midway through the fight to stay out of the way and open betting pools.
It really is hard for one’s nature to change!
The game went on for a while. Only after they were all soaked in water and snow did the crowd reluctantly return to the dorms.
“Leon-on-on-on…have you fi-finished ea-eating-ng…” Fu Xing shivered as he spoke to Leon, who was sitting in the living room to read.
Ever since Halloween, Leon’s range of activity had shifted out from his bed area. Now, he was frequently reading at leisure next to the window, just as Fu Xing had seen him for the first time in the dorm.
“Mn.” Leon looked up to glance at the completely drenched Fu Xing.
“W-we were j-just having a snow fight…”
“I know.” Leon’s gaze shifted back to his book. “I saw.”
“I see, then why didn’t you come down to play too?”
“Hmph…” Leon snorted lightly, as if he had heard some type of joke.
“It’s so cold!” Fu Xing removed his soaked clothing and grabbed clean garments as he walked to the bathroom. “This type of weather is best suited for eating hotpot.” He turned to look at Leon. “I promised Rocort that I would bring an electric pot back after winter break for everyone to eat hotpot together in the dorms. When the time comes, you’d better not run away!”
Leon furrowed his brows at Fu Xing without saying a word. He simply let out a soft sigh as he continued reading his book.
Time flew past. In the blink of an eye, the first semester at Shalom had ended, just like that.
He took the school bus, arriving at the stop in town. Staring from next semester, the first years could directly take the school bus to campus as well.
Soon after alighting the bus, he saw He Xuan Yi just happen to walk out from a coffee shop, wearing a heavy overcoat.
“How are you guys going back? By plane?” Fu Xing turned to ask Emerald and the others.
“I’m taking the train.” Emerald glanced at his watch. “It’s in two hours.”
“I’m taking a shortcut,” Rocort chuckled.
“I see.” Fu Xing looked at his good friends, slightly reluctant to part like this. It was his first time thinking a vacation was dull, the first time he had looked forward to school starting so much.
He Xuan Yi walked towards his son and stood off to the side with a smile, waiting for them to finish chatting.
“Then,” Fu Xing lifted his luggage, his lips drawing into a heartfelt grin. “See you next semester.”
