Chapter 9: Halloween trial, dance of a thousand demons

“Next is Class E.”

Emerald frowned. “Those annoying pests won’t be easy to deal with.”

“Not easy to deal with still means it can be dealt with!” Fu Xing said as he ran, “Teach a fierce lesson to those so-called annoying pests!”

“No problem.”

The instant they stepped into Class E’s domain, the scene changed into a precipice, and Fu Xing’s group had just crossed over the edge of the cliff to fall straight down.

“Ahhhh!” Fu Xing did not fail to live up to expectations, letting out a loud shout. He felt as if his organs were rising upwards, giving a disgusting sense of nausea.

“Received.” Rachel chuckled and said to Emerald as they fell, “The illusory technique can be dispelled now.”

“Got it.” Momiji snapped her fingers, and the precipice around them immediately vanished.

However, the noise of a loud canon and a blazing fire replaced it instead. The scene around them changed into a true battlefield. Soldiers swarmed towards them with weapons in their hands.

“Crap! It’s a multi-layered illusory technique!” Momiji furrowed her brows. “Careful, the enemy might be mixed in with those soldiers!”

“Soldiers?” Brad asked in bewilderment, “Why do I see a pack of wild beasts? Aren’t we in a forest?”

“What?”

“I have a bunch of naked men with obscene smiles on my end,” Rachel chuckled. “Pfft, looks like I’m the only one facing the actual people from Class E.”

“The enemy is simultaneously using bewitchment spells!” Fu Xing hurriedly shouted, “Quick, wake yourselves up!”

“The question is, how do we determine whether we’re awake or not?” Emerald knit his brows together as he dodged a soldier’s attack and said, “Regardless of where [you look], it’s all false.”

Fu Xing hid behind Dan Juan’s protective net as he watched his companions fighting against both enemies that existed and enemies that didn’t, anxiety growing in his heart.

Damn it, those annoying pests from Class E really do have a few tricks. Don’t tell me we’re actually going to end up retreating in defeat here?!

No! We cannot admit defeat!

But what could they do? They clearly knew the enemy was standing on the same ground as them, yet could not accurately launch an attack—

Wait, ground? Fu Xing had a flash of realisation. He asked Momiji, “Can you control flames from a distance away?”

“I can.”

“Use the flames to surround this entire area.”

“For what?”

Fu Xing grinned and whispered something into her ear.

“Are you sure I can do that?” Momiji smirked as she waved her hand. Bunches of flames sprang up one after another, forming an enormous circle on the ground to surround both enemy and ally alike.

“The event rules don’t say you can’t.” As the flames connected together, Fu Xing shouted at his other companions, “Jump!”

As soon as he said this, the circle of flames exploded outwards at the same time. A resounding noise of destruction rang out as the ground shook and collapsed.

Although Fu Xing had leapt up in time when the ground caved in, he still fell flat on his face onto a mound of gravel.

“Cough, cough!” He spat out the dust in his mouth and pushed his body off the rocks to stagger back up.

The cliff, battlefield, forest, and even the perverts, had all vanished. The background had returned to a normal road— Well, more accurately, a seriously collapsed road.

“That move wasn’t bad, Fu Xing.” Brad pulled him up and helped pat off the dust from his body. “I like it.”

“Thanks…”

“Despicable bastards!” They heard furious roars as Class E’s students miserably wrestled with the gravel and struggled hard to extricate themselves from the piles of rock.

A few of the students that made their way out held up longswords, indignantly blocking the way for Fu Xing’s group. “We won’t let you pass!”

“Who cares about you?” Brad sent a fist straight towards them, making them fall back down into the mound of gravel.

Without the concealment of spells, Class E’s attacks were not anything to fear in the slightest.

Class C’s group quickly passed through Class E’s territory and crossed the main bailey to enter the latter half of the path.

“The next one to pass is the most powerful Class C!” Fu Xing laughingly announced.

“Awesome!”

The moment they entered Class C’s domain, cheers and applause immediately rang out. Good wishes and words of encouragement followed them as they ran through the hundred-metre length belonging to Class C.

After passing through the buffer area, they were faced with the final checkpoint: Class A.

The instant they entered Class A’s territory, they could feel a Halloween atmosphere.

The students of Class A’s defence group had personally come out, dressed up as witches, Frankensteins, zombies, vampires, spectres, and demons. All kinds of monsters and creatures carrying weapons charged towards them at full speed to launch an attack the moment they approached.

“Ah! Sorry, there’s no way I can get scared by this…” Fu Xing apologised to his teammates as he dodged to the side.

“It’s fine, Fu Xing.” Rachel used her exquisite sword skills and responded during a spare moment, “I think that the most appropriate reaction at this moment is just to laugh! Hahaha!”

Although Class A’s disguises were clumsy, their military techniques were at an extremely advanced level.

Leon and Rachel were tangled into a fight with two darkbloods dressed up as the homicidal Jason. Four blades clashed in unison to let out a sharp and clear clang.

“Andre, why are you dressed to look so stupid?” Rachel attacked as she conversed, “Is that a trivet on your face?”

“Enough, Rachel. We’re enemies now.”

“Hahahaha…Andre, you’ve fallen.”

As for Brad, he was emotionally fighting with a beastman dressed up as a traditional vampire.

“You could dress up as anything, why dress up as such a shady thing!” Brad fought as he scolded, “Look at you, even wearing some kind of fake fangs. Why would a good and proper werewolf change into something like an ass!”

Emerald and Momiji were surrounded by elves dressed up as a witch and a demon. Various spells rose and fell with blinding blasts.

Fu Xing and Dan Juan were still the same as before, holed up inside the defensive barrier, idly watching their companions in battle.

“Why not go out and help?” Fu Xing asked curiously. “You’re also very powerful, aren’t you?”

“The current situation does not require me to handle it right now.” Dan Juan unhurriedly stated, “No need to waste too much strength for no reason.”

Once they broke away from Class A’s attacks, the Forbidden Tower appeared before them.

The final buffer region was about three hundred metres from the Forbidden Tower.

“We’ve passed the five class checkpoints, so let’s give one last spurt of energy to directly charge forwards to the finishing point—” Fu Xing encouraged his teammates.

Then, as soon as he spoke, dozens of steel blades instantly shot out from both sides of the path, embedding deep into the ground.

If Dan Juan had not pulled Fu Xing away in time, he would have already become a pin cushion.

Their party once again went into battle states.

“Who’s there?!”

“Does this place also have a checkpoint?” Brad warily scanned the surroundings.

“Theoretically speaking, no…”

The steel blades stuck in the ground suddenly flew up and launched an attack at Fu Xing’s party. Under the reflection of the moonlight, silk threads tied to the ends of the blades turned visible.

“Over there!” Momiji tossed a fireball in the air on their right.

As the flames exploded, five figures leapt out from the nearby forest like a whirlwind.

The five unexpected guests were not dressed anything like the students from the earlier checkpoints. Each of them wore a snow-white mask, and they wore black clothing resembling a German military uniform. There was an image of a balance embroidered on their sleeve, with a white triangle shape formed by the intersection of three straight lines above the centre of the balance.

“That’s…White Triangle…” Emerald coldly muttered.

Fu Xing froze in astonishment. “How did they appear on campus?!” And during the test, too! It’s not like this is some kind of Harry Potter plot! Don’t tell me the hole in the Forbidden Tower’s defence let them break through?

Clang!

The clear ring of metal striking [metal] could be heard as Leon took the lead, brandishing his blade to fiercely attack the enemy.

However, the enemy was not an easy opponent either. A White Triangle member holding a longsword blocked each of Leon’s attacks.

Each time the blades clashed, a series of clashing noises would erupt, and the touching blades would even light up in sparks from the friction!

“Leon, be careful!” Rachel helped attack as she warned, “These guys aren’t easy to deal with!”

Leon’s pupils turned dark red as he glowered intimidatingly.

When the opponent defended [an attack], Leon murmured in a low voice, “I would like to ask you a few questions. Where is the mastermind behind the Great Heidelberg Purge twenty-four years ago?”

The opponent did not speak, only continuing their attacks.

“Don’t know? Then let me ask in a different way. Where is Sele Kaplenz?”

“Leon! Watch out!”

Another member of White Triangle interjected. The two members joined hands, gradually forcing Leon to retreat. Emerald used elf magic to separate the two people. Meanwhile, Momiji and Brad were each handling a White Triangle member as well.

“Be good and stay inside this.” Dan Juan set up the defensive net to envelope Fu Xing. “Quick, run!” As soon as he said this, he turned in preparation to enter the battle.

Fu Xing hurriedly exclaimed, “I can also fight! My spells are very powerful!” He didn’t want this! He didn’t want to helplessly run away alone!

“I know. But you can’t control your spells, so it might not necessarily be of help.” Dan Juan smiled placatingly. “Moreover, we have to depend on you to get military support. If everyone dies in battle, who would notify the others of the danger—”

Whoosh! Dan Juan looked back and shot out silver threads from each of his fingers, knocking down the steel blades.

“Hurry up and go, Fu Xing!” As soon as he said this, he jumped away to continuously strike back at the opponent.

Fu Xing stood rooted in place, watching his own teammates fighting the enemy with all their strength.

He didn’t want to leave!

He knew that staying here wouldn’t be any use, but he couldn’t just abandon his companions!

Fu Xing stood inside the defensive barrier anxiously watching the glinting blades before him.

Why would White Triangle’s people appear? Why would they just happen to find out group? The entire journey has gone smoothly. He had originally thought that Class C would win first place, but now it seemed like they could not even guarantee their lives—

Oh, wait a minute. There should be video cameras set up along the entire path to record the competition. It’s already been five minutes since White Triangle appeared. Logically speaking, support should have already arrived…

Fu Xing kept his eyes locked onto the people fighting at close quarters. All of the team members had lost their minds in fury. Meanwhile, the uninvolved him spotted some things that weren’t quite right.

It felt as if the opponent wasn’t really showing their true skills. Aside from taking the initiative to attack the very beginning, their subsequent movements had practically been completely on defence. Even when they did attack, they did not aim anywhere critical.

As the fight progressed, the party gradually wandered from the path.

Suddenly, he caught a whiff of a familiar scent. The sweet fruity smell triggered his memory. That’s…the smell of apricot peach.

The scent I smelled in Samukawa’s bathroom!

He remembered now; although the event rules required for each class’s checkpoints to stay in designated areas, there had been a beginning statement that had said: “All attacks will take place on the main path. The checkpoints and attacks must all be set up on the path between the starting point and Forbidden Tower.”

This sentence implied that they could still encounter attacks even if they left the checkpoint areas!

The corners of Fu Xing’s lips tilted upwards. He raced towards one of the White Triangle members. “Little duckies are very cute; baby chicks are too.”

The person froze for a second, though they immediately returned to their skilled actions.

As expected, I was right!

“Everyone, return to the main path! Continue advancing forwards!” Fu Xing shouted at the other members.

“Impossible!”

“How could we let these people go!” Leon roared, his voice carrying a deep-rooted hatred.

“It’s just the professors pretending! Not the real White Triangle!” Fu Xing yelled as he ran towards the main path. “Their objective is to stall for time!”

His teammates instantly paused. At the same time, the opponents also stopped moving.

“Damn it!” Brad muttered a curse as he shot a glare at the fake White Triangle. “This kind of joke isn’t funny at all!”

“It’s absolutely terrible!”

Although they were feeling discontent, the party suppressed their fury and hurriedly returned to the main path to forge ahead towards the end point.

This was [Fu Xing’s] third visit to the Forbidden Tower. It was the same scene as before, surrounded by an eerie silence. The inner sections of the tower had all been sealed off, leaving only the staircase leading to the top open for the execution group to enter.

The party followed the stone steps inside the tower, racing to the top.

The top of the Forbidden Tower was roughly the size of a classroom. It was not partitioned in any way, and there was an open window on each of the four walls to capture the campus landscape. The frames around each window were covered in elaborate runes that stretched across the floor and the ceiling, converging in the middle above and below to form two twisted totems.

The bell stand was placed at the northern window facing the main bailey.

“It’s only 23 minutes right now! Quick, strike the bell!”

Brad sprung forwards to arrive before the bell. Just as he was about to pick up the hammer, a silver chain suddenly shot out from the corner and tied Brad’s hands up before wrapping around his entire body.

“Ah!” Brad let out a shout as he fell onto his knees. Then, he collapsed, unconscious.

“Brad?!” What’s going on?!

The other teammates warily looked around but did not see anyone else.

“Oi, master planner, why didn’t you tell us that there was also a checkpoint here?!”

“There really isn’t a checkpoint at the end!” Fu Xing hurriedly explained.

“Then what about the White Triangle attack just now!”

“The entire main path is part of the test route, so that ambush still followed the rules! But there isn’t any checkpoint upon entering the tower!”

“Then are you telling me that this place is haunted—ah!” Momiji abruptly shrieked halfway through her words, then fell backwards onto the floor.

“There’s someone else here!” Emerald cautiously scanned their surroundings. “Everyone, group together, don’t disperse! Fu Xing, you stand in the middle!”

“Ok…” Fu Xing glanced over at the fallen Brad and Momiji, worried about their conditions.

Why would we encounter an attack here…don’t tell me that we’ve really run into White Triangle’s people this time?!

That can’t be!

“Watch out!”

A shout rang out, then a powerful force shoved Fu Xing away.

Fu Xing was pushed into the wall, and he nearly stumbled out the window. He felt an energy envelop the roof from above. Dan Juan, Emerald, Rachel, and Leon, who were still in the middle of the room, were enshrouded. Just like Brad, the four of them seemed to suddenly feel their strength drained away, and they lost consciousness one after another, collapsing onto the floor.

The one that had pushed Fu Xing away was Leon.

“Hurry…run….”

Leon uttered out this final warning with the last of consciousness before closing his eyes.

“Run?” Fu Xing looked behind him. The top of the tall tower was dozens of metres above the ground. A chilling wind blew up, making him shiver.

How do I run? Besides…His gaze shifted back to his six unconscious companions.

Run away by himself? He knew he was very weak, but if he really did abandon his teammates like this to flee alone, he would really be terrible!

“Who’s there! Come out!” Fu Xing shouted in the empty tower roof. “Hiding in the darkness to attack others is too dirty, you evil lowlife!”

Slap! A violent force struck his face, a hot sting immediately rising from his skin. However, he could not see any trace of the attacker.

The next instant, he felt intense pain from his stomach, chest, and even legs. The attacks came too suddenly, giving Fu Xing no time to even cry out. He could only lean against the wall and endure the beating.

What in the world is going on?

“Clean your mouth a bit,” a familiar voice sounded out through the empty air.

This voice is… “The annoying pest from Class E!”

The next second, Alec and Dean materialised out of nowhere.

“Not bad, you recognised my voice.” Alec looked at Fu Xing in contempt.

“It would be hard to forget such a narcissistic voice even if I wanted to….” Fu Xing raised his head to glare at them. “So despicable.”

“Cut the crap.” Dean slapped him. “Calling us despicable? You and that cat girl are the ones that are despicable! Using such shady checkpoints to entrap us!”

“You guys were just too weak to pass through it!”

“Bullshit!” A fist slammed straight into Fu Xing’s gut.

It hurts so much!

“You think setting up these kinds of checkpoints is super clever?” Alec growled out through gritted teeth. “Only weaklings would think so highly of such petty tricks!”

“I’m not a weakling!”

“You are!” Dean kept his eyes locked onto Fu Xing. “Don’t think we aren’t aware. You couldn’t even transform and had to ask others for help.”

“That was before!”

“Oh, is that so?” Alec smirked. “How about we test it out?”

As soon as he said this, he grabbed Fu Xing by the collar to push the upper half of Fu Xing’s body outside the window.

“Stop!” Although he could already control his special ability, he could only use it when his mind was focused. There was no way he could make himself concentrate right now. Fu Xing clutched Alec’s wrist and changed to a persuasion tactic in attempt to stop their actions.

“Let’s chat a bit.” Fu Xing tried his best to give a gentle smile. “If you do this kind of thing, your parents will be upset. And just look at how many seniors and friends by your side that care about you!”

Alec and Dean exchanged a look with each other.

“This brat doesn’t only have a problem with his abilities, he has a problem with his brain too.”

“Could it be that he’s mentally retarded?” Dean seriously commented.

“That’s not it!” Damn it! Looks like the kindness route won’t work! “Just stop! The professors will definitely find out about you guys doing something like this!”

“Not necessarily.”

“Ah?”

“That’s where we’re different from you.” Dean grinned smugly. “Highly experienced darkbloods can manipulate the memories of others. None of you will remember being attacked; you’ll only think you fainted due to your lack of strength.”

“But there are surveillance cameras!”

“Those are only set up in the checkpoint areas. The starting and finishing points don’t have any.” Alec checked the clock. “Besides, we’re also just stalling for time. Once forty minutes pass, we’ll strike the bell for you.”

“That’s way below the average!”

“We’re just helping Shalom eliminate useless trash.” Dean smiled and said, “Before time is up, why don’t you show us your special ability and try to impress us?”

“No! Don’t do this!” Fu Xing shot a glance at the ground from the corner of his eyes as he felt a burst of terror. “Let me go!”

“If you die, then you can only hold yourself to blame.” Alec sneered, “Without any ability, you should not have entered this academy at all!” As soon as he said this, he muttered an offensive spell at Fu Xing.

As if he was being stabbed by needles, pricks of pain attacked every part of Fu Xing’s flesh. His grip loosened as a result, and his body fell straight down from the window.

“AHH—” Fu Xing cried out in terror. It was as if he had returned to Class E’s checkpoint.

But then, what instantly flooded his heart was not fear, but indignance and annoyance.

He was furious at Dean’s villainy, and even angrier at his own inability.

As Fu Xing descended upside down, his gaze just happened to land on the top of the tower. The light coming from the roof was like a lighthouse amidst the darkness, capturing his attention.

The finishing point was right in front of him. Alec and Dean stood next to the window with arrogant expressions.

They had already gotten this far, how could he give up!

Pull yourself together, He Fu Xing! Don’t lose to people like them!

Prove to them that you’re not a weakling!

Fu Xing closed his eyes and focused completely on his body. His form continued to rapidly fall, and just as he was about to hit the ground, two black wings sprouted from his back.

“It worked!”

Fu Xing did not have much time to rejoice. He forcefully flapped his wings, soaring upwards with a draft to charge back up to the top of the tower. He saw Alec and Dean’s expressions of shock; however, his objective wasn’t to astonish them, but to—

Fu Xing swiftly dashed across the room, throwing himself straight towards the bell to grab the fallen hammer from the ground and use it to strike the bell with all his strength.

Ding! Ding!

“Damn it!” Dean roared in fury as he launched an attack.

Fu Xing hurriedly jumped up to fly up into the air. The attack struck the bell with a loud clang.

From where Fu Xing floated near the ceiling, he looked down to glare at the other two people. “Watch me fly back to the starting point and report your wicked conduct to the professors. Just wait, you’ll be cleaning the toilets for an entire year!”

“In your dreams!” Alec gathered his special ability in his palms and threw it at Fu Xing.

Fu Xing nimbly dodged. The attack wave brushed past him, blasting out a huge hole in the roof.

“Missed,” Fu Xing smugly stated.

“Are you sure?”

“What—ah!”

A broken brick fell down and smashed Fu Xing on the head. A burst of gold flashed before his eyes and he lost his vision, falling onto the ground.

“What a pain in the ass!” Dean walked up to Fu Xing and viciously kicked him. “What kind of monster is he? Is he a jingguai? Those wings look like a bat’s.”

“But bats don’t have four limbs.”

“Hurry up and cast the spell on them! This brat already struck the bell just now.”

Fu Xing lay collapsed on the floor, his consciousness blurry. His body endured their beating, unable to resist.

What are these two talking about…bats don’t have four limbs in the first place, why discuss such a stupid question…

He let out a heavy sigh as he glanced across at his other fallen comrades.

Sorry, it’s all because of my incompetence…

Forget helping myself, I even ended up burdening others.

Leon would not have been hit by the spell if not for saving him. The others might have captured the enemy long ago with their skills if not for protectively encircling him.

“If only I was a bit stronger…”

Such a pity, after we already put in so much effort.

To think that I even boasted to the other classes about winning the championship, and now we’re probably just the buffer at the end…

At this moment, the ground began to tremble.

“What-what’s going on!” Alec looked around in panic, then grabbed Fu Xing. “Oi! Are you doing this? Hurry up and stop!”

If only I was that amazing…

There was an abnormal oscillation in the air and powerful gale blasted in from the four windows. Then, the sound of thunder came from above the roof.

“What’s that?!” Alec let go of his grip and Fu Xing fell back onto the floor.

Did the professors arrive?

Low shouts rang through the air, followed by the smell of something burning.

What in the world is it?

Fu Xing lay sprawled across the ground as he saw Dean and Alec’s feet fly forwards.

“Ahhhhh!”

Miserable screams echoed from above. Then, he felt warm drops of liquid spray down.

It was blood.

Fu Xing struggled to turn his head and gaze upwards at the roof. All he saw was an enormous, black beast occupying the space above.

The beast had the fierce head of a lion that was currently chewing on a bloody arm. Its body was like a goat’s, its tail like a snake’s. Dean’s right arm was completely missing, his gaping wound spurting out copious amounts of blood.

“Much easier this time.” A familiar voice came from behind Fu Xing. “They even broke a hole in the main seal. These two idiots were still a bit useful after all.”

An ear-splitting roar of the beast resounded once again.

“Quiet down, stupid cat.” An impatient voice said, “I’m in a good mood for once.”

“Gah—” The beast’s shout turned into one of pain.

Who is it? What’s the situation now?

Footsteps neared Fu Xing. Then, he felt a warm air spill behind his ear.

“Don’t forget what you just said.” The male voice he seemed to know well entered his ears. “Become strong, Fu Xing.”

This voice sounds so familiar, but why can’t I remember it…

He was just about to recall it, but then the sense of recognition was immediately swept away along with the voice.

“…And then, become my compass to re-establish order.”

What exactly are you talking about…

The ground began to tremble once more. Fu Xing could not keep himself conscious any longer; as he tried everything to keep his eyelids open, they heavily sank down.

His thoughts cut off at that point as he sank into darkness.

When Fu Xing re-opened his eyes, numerous worried faces filled his vision.

“He’s awake!”

“Are you alright?”

He blankly stared at the people by his side, momentarily unable to grasp the situation. “Where is this?”

Emerald, who was covered in bandages, explained, “The medical centre. The competition has already ended. The professors rushed to the scene and removed the danger.”

“Oh right, that Alec and Dean—”

“Class E’s people are still in Forbidden Tower.”

“What?”

“After causing such a mess, they have to stay in the confinement room for a while.”

Fu Xing thought of that enormous beast and swallowed hard. “I thought they had been eaten by that beast.”

“They’re not must better. One of them had their arm snapped off. Although it was reattached, they won’t be able to move it for an entire year. The other one had a gaping hole in their abdomen; luckily, everything inside was still there. In addition, they got such a massive fright that their minds are a bit scrambled.” Momiji coldly scoffed, “They reaped what they sowed.”

“Ah, is that so…” Sounds pretty tragic. “What was that thing?”

“That’s Chimera.” Grod, who had been sitting off to one side, stated, “Commonly referred to as Lion-Headed Beast. It’s the guardian of the space rift.”

“Why is it in the academy?” Don’t tell me it’s the school pet?

“Shalom was originally located inside a space rift. This place is parallel to the outside space. Outsiders cannot enter nor see inside. Otherwise, it would be very troublesome to get captured by all the satellites in the sky,” Grod huffed back in reply while cleverly avoiding some facts.

“Then what about the competition? What happened afterwards?”

“It’s already ended.” Momiji let out a helpless sigh. “How could it continue after something that big happened?”

“That’s true too.” Fu Xing looked at Emerald. “Then didn’t you badly lose bets?”

“Although the Halloween test ended, the checkpoints were prepared ages ago.” Emerald smirked proudly. “So, in the end, the classes were graded based on their established checkpoints.”

“Oh!” Fu Xing felt like his surroundings turned brighter. “So?”

“Class C earned the highest score! As for Class E, they lost their right to competition as penalty.” Emerald gave a hard pat to Fu Xing’s shoulder. “It’s all thanks to your proper leadership.”

“That’s right! When Peiris announced the scores, he spent about ten minutes praising our checkpoint. He was nearly crying from emotions, as if he were the one that won.”

“I see.”

Fu Xing was much calmer than he had expected when he heard the news of winning the championship. Perhaps it was because so many accidents had occurred along the way that he could not feel too happy about the good news.

It’s probably the detached feeling of a survivor after a disaster.

Fu Xing and his teammates stayed in the medical centre for a day of observation before leaving. Upon returning to class, they were respected like heroes. Every person went up to ask them about what had happened that day, beyond excited about winning first place.

The happiest person was Emerald. He had gathered a huge sum from the bets this time. He had even gone out to buy a fountain pen in the town while he was out to give to Fu Xing as a reward of compensation.

  1. “Despicable bastards!” For a second I couldn’t help but think about another novel’s protagonist.
“Quite down, stupid cat.” I think “Quite” should be “Quiet”.
This actually does feel almost like a Harry Potter plot though so Fu Xing is right about that one. Leon saving Fu Xing and telling him to run is touching but it’s sad too.
Emerald went out of his way to buy a gift?!
    Thanks for the translation.

    1. Thanks, fixed! And yes, their moments of friendship are always touching and sad at the same time…and these moments get progressively more intense as the series continues. It’s why I love the story though!
